tidal pools

Found tidal pools. I feel it all.

Tidal pools; a flash of light pours into the house. A tidal pool. I watched, mouth ajar, as the rainstorm hit the concrete. Little white fragments of glass reflect the headlights of the car. Tidal pools in the mirror. Tidal pools in my heart.

I felt the heart, still flooded from tears in distant European rivers, teal and thin like a vein. I crossed that bridge when I landed the plane, feet first, gripping hot coals. Tidal pools. Standing atop the burning world, hot concrete, hot coals. Thin hot summer rain. Tidal pools.

When the flood consumed the world, they took every blessed animal upon the earth and boarded the craft. Frightened goats huddled below deck with the roosters, horses, aphids, all protected by their faith and the rattling wood of the boat. A dove called from the light post. They all sang in tongues. I sang along too.

I knew they had set sail when I heard nothing else but the silence across the shore. I stepped back, the sand believed, and in my wake;

Found tidal pools. I feel it all.
